1878 the sky went dark, some thought it was the second coming, others were prepared and hiked up to the tops of mountains, journey accross the country to get a glimpse of it. Thomas Edison built a light sensor which was set to be to sensitive to be much use, but did show the corona produced a large amount of light. An early group of femail astronomers traveled to view it.
